Getting your quilt top quilted is an easy process here at Quilted Joy!
You do not need an appointment for us to intake your quilt at our Louisville, KY location - come on by anytime!
When you arrive and present your quilt top, we will give you some paperwork to fill out. It consists mostly of your contact information. While you fill that out, one of our quilt fairies will measure the length and width of your quilt top. Multiplying those measurements together gives us the square inches and this is what we use to determine the cost of quilting.
There are a few things we need to know from you:
- the pattern for your quilt
- thread color
- if you need to purchase backing or batting OR if you brought your own with you
- if you want binding for your quilt
A quilt fairy will walk you through the entire process. If you need fabric, they will help you pick it out and cut it for you. Make sure your backing fabric is bigger than your quilt top! We recommend about 8 inches longer around all sides. We like to have the same amount of excess for the batting too.
There are some battings that are simply too fragile to use on the frame and will drastically reduce your success and happiness with the final product. We sell a variety of great battings that perform perfectly on the frame and we know you’ll love them. Please do not bring Fairfield brand or Mountain Mist brand or the JoAnne’s house generic brand. Most any other brand works great.
If you are unsure of the color of thread you would like, you can request "quilter's choice." A Quilt Fairy will choose the color they think will look best on your quilt, based on if you want the color to stand out or blend in!
We have hundreds of patterns to choose from for your quilt! You will get to look through a big binder full of designs to put on your quilt. The main categories are:

- Christmas
- swirls
- juvenile
- animals
- hobbies
- food
- sports
Once everything is measured and sorted out, you'll need to pay for the quilt. We only require 50% payment on the day, and you are able to pay for the rest when you pick up the finished quilt.
